The 56th GST Council Meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 3rd September 2025, has given a historic boost to India’s real estate and construction industry. By cutting GST rates on cement, tiles, marble, granite, plywood, paints, and sanitary fittings, the Council has reduced the overall cost of construction, housing, and infrastructure projects.
The new GST rates will take effect from 22nd September 2025, and are expected to directly benefit developers, contractors, and homebuyers.
Cement has been one of the highest-taxed construction materials since the implementation of GST in 2017.
