Delhi-Meerut in a Flash: RRTS Corridor Redefines Travel"
The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), also known as Namo Bharat trains, will operate for the public with a frequency of every 15 minutes.
Commuting from Delhi to Meerut via Ghaziabad in under an hour, even during non-peak hours, might seem like a dream, but it will become a reality starting Sunday evening. The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), also known as Namo Bharat trains, will be available to the public with a frequency of 15 minutes.
According to an official statement on Saturday, the fare from New Ashok Nagar Station, the first operational station on the Delhi-Meerut route, to Meerut South will cost Rs 150 for a standard coach and Rs 225 for a premium coach. Standard coach fares start at Rs 20 and go up to Rs 150 for a single trip, while premium coach fares range from Rs 30 to Rs 225.
Until now, the RRTS train services, launched in 2023, operated exclusively between Meerut and Ghaziabad. This 42-km stretch of the corridor, spanning from Sahibabad to Meerut South, includes nine stations.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate an additional 13-km segment of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, extending from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar. This milestone marks a significant step forward in regional connectivity. With this inauguration, Namo Bharat trains will officially reach Delhi, introducing a new era of high-speed mobility for the Capital.
With this inauguration, the operational stretch of the Namo Bharat Corridor will extend to 55 kilometers, featuring a total of 11 stations. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi highlighted that Delhi has contributed Rs 1,260 crore to the project. “These initiatives will not only cut down travel time but also boost regional economic growth,” she stated.
Following the Prime Minister's inauguration, passenger operations on the Namo Bharat trains will begin at 5 PM on January 5. The trains will run for the public every 15 minutes.
With the start of operations on this section, Meerut is now directly connected to the national capital, Delhi, via the Namo Bharat corridor. This development will cut travel time by one-third, allowing commuters to travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in just under 40 minutes, according to a statement from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
