MG Cyberster Set to Launch in India This Month – Everything You Need to Know
MG Motor is all set to introduce its first-ever electric sports car, the MG Cyberster, in India this month. Originally unveiled at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Cyberster combines classic MG roadster styling with modern electric performance. Designed as a premium, high-performance convertible, it is expected to be sold via MG's exclusive Select Retail Channel. With its scissor doors, futuristic interior, and impressive 580km range, the Cyberster aims to set a new benchmark in India's electric vehicle (EV) market.
Here’s a detailed look at its design, features, variants, expected price, and more.
Design and Exterior
The Cyberster draws inspiration from the classic MG B Roadster, featuring a long bonnet and a distinctive octagonal 'MG' badge. Its front fascia showcases a sealed nose with an upward-swooping air dam, giving it a 'smiling' appearance. Notably, the Cyberster is the first electric vehicle in India to feature scissor doors. The rear is adorned with arrow-shaped tail-lights connected by an LED light bar, and an aggressive split diffuser with a black finish enhances its sporty appeal.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Cyberster boasts a modern and tech-centric cabin. It features a tri-screen setup on the dashboard, comprising a 10.25-inch driver's display flanked by two 7-inch screens. The central console houses a vertically positioned 7-inch touchscreen adjacent to the drive selector, with controls for the soft top located below. Touch-operated buttons manage the HVAC system, and additional amenities include adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a 360-degree parking camera. Safety is bolstered by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and front collision warning.
Performance and Battery
The India-spec Cyberster is equipped with a 77kWh battery pack powering dual motors on each axle, delivering a combined output of 510hp and 725Nm of torque. This configuration enables a 0-100kph acceleration in 3.2 seconds, with a claimed range of 580km per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). MG may consider introducing a rear-wheel-drive variant with a smaller 64kWh battery, depending on market response.
Variants and Colours
The Cyberster will be available in India in four colour options: Diamond Red, Inca Yellow, Ivory White, and Andes Gray. Internationally, it is offered in six colours.
Expected Price and Availability
As a fully imported unit, the Cyberster is anticipated to be priced between ₹50 lakh and ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom). Pre-bookings commenced in March, with deliveries expected to begin in April. While it has no direct competitors in the Indian market, the Cyberster positions itself as an electric alternative to models like the BMW Z4 roadster.
The launch of the MG Cyberster signifies a pivotal moment in India's automotive landscape, offering consumers a blend of classic design and cutting-edge electric performance.
