Mumbai:
A day after Assam police filed a case against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Maharashtra followed suit. The state's cyber cell unit has filed a case not only against the 31-year-old but also against everyone involved in Episodes 1 to 6 of "India's Got Latent," including the guests. Sources revealed that action has been taken against around 40 individuals.
The process of issuing notices to all involved has begun, and everyone will be called to record their statements, according to the cyber cell. Three separate groups and individuals had lodged police complaints in Maharashtra over the YouTuber's offensive remarks. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also among those who criticized him.
"I've been informed about this, although I haven't watched it myself. I understand it was highly vulgar, and this behavior was inappropriate. Everyone has the right to freedom of speech, but this freedom stops when it infringes on the rights of others. There are limits, and if anyone crosses them, action will be taken," the Chief Minister stated.
During his appearance on the "India's Got Latent" show, Allahbadia, who has 4.5 million followers on Instagram and 1.05 crore subscribers on YouTube, asked a contestant a question that he had taken from a recent episode of OG Crew's "Truth or Drink."
The question — "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?" — shocked the participants and sparked a huge controversy.
The following day, Allahbadia posted an apology on X, stating, "I shouldn’t have said what I said on India's Got Latent. I’m sorry... My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to apologize."
