Toyota is expected to introduce two new large SUVs in India this year.

Toyota is expected to introduce two new large SUVs in India this year.

After a significant hiatus, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is set to return to the Indian market in its newest version.

Toyota is renowned for its iconic SUV nameplates, known for their durability and global recognition. These rugged vehicles have earned a reputation for bulletproof reliability. In India, the Japanese automaker currently offers the Fortuner and Land Cruiser 300. To further expand its lineup and update existing models, Toyota has two new large SUVs scheduled for launch in the country this year. Here’s a closer look at these upcoming Toyota SUVs set to debut in India.

1)Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

After a lengthy absence, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is ready to make its comeback to the Indian market. The newest generation, known by the codename JC250, was globally launched in 2023 and is sold as the Land Cruiser 250 in several international markets. In India, the LC Prado will be positioned below the Land Cruiser 300 within Toyota's SUV lineup. This rugged ladder-frame SUV spans 4,920 mm in length and features a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.

Expected to launch in India in the second half of 2025, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is likely to be powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, which is also used in the Fortuner, and it may feature a 48V mild-hybrid system. While Toyota offers a 2.4-litre petrol strong hybrid powertrain in certain international markets, the likelihood of this variant arriving in India is low. The Land Cruiser Prado will be sold in India through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.

2)New Toyota Fortuner Hybrid

The new Toyota Fortuner mild-hybrid made its debut in the South African market last year and will gradually be introduced in other countries. The SUV retains the familiar 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV diesel engine, paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This hybrid setup enhances the power delivery, offering an additional 16 bhp and 42 Nm of torque, improving performance and fuel efficiency.

The power output of the 3-row Toyota Fortuner Hybrid stands at 201 bhp, with a peak torque of 500 Nm. Toyota claims that the integration of the mild-hybrid system improves the SUV's fuel efficiency by approximately 5%. Set to launch in the Indian market later this year, the Fortuner MHEV may also feature the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite and a 360-degree parking camera. Like the current model, the Fortuner Hybrid will be available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations.
